Red Bennies South Side Show is Melbourne’s Saturday night home for outlandish vaudeville and rambunctious dance floor antics.  Hosted by MC Knave Knixx, each week we are joined by local and international guests performing aerial antics, circus, cabaret, dance and much more.

HANNAH CRYLE

Hannah Cryle, has been performing in circuses for over a decade. She began as a founding member of Brisbane's Flipside Circus at age 9 and recently graduated from the National Institute of Circus Arts (Melbourne) with a Bachelors Degree in Circus Arts. Her training has spanned a broad range of disciplines including acrobatics, aerial skills, dance, drama, martial arts and music. Hannah's prime disciplines are German Wheel, Hula Hoops, Solo Static Trapeze and Duo Trapeze (Static and Swinging). She aims to continue being immersed in the professional circus world for years to come.

Tank began her performing arts career at age 9, as a classical ballet and Balkan folk dancer in her hometown of Pittsburgh, USA. She then moved to Chicago where she earned her Bachelors in Fine Arts, majoring in costume design. Inspired by working for a Cirque du Soleil show in 2003, she began private lessons in trapeze with Shayna Swanson. Shortly after, she joined the Aloft Aerial Dance company.

She moved to the land down under to further study circus arts and performance techniques. She now lives in Melbourne, Australia, where she works and trains. She has studied at NICA, the National Institute of Circus

Arts, where she fine-tuned her aerial skills, and picked up foot juggling and fire performance.

Some artists are too potent a talent, too much of a one-off, to be housed within the confines of a band. The incomparable Lewis Floyd Henry is just such a dude. In the age when MySpace and the blogosphere have become the conventional means of achieving rock stardom, this remarkable songwriter and performer has gone the ancient route of taking to the streets to broadcast his music.

For the past few years, like a Mississippi bluesman in the early 20^th century, Lewis has pitched up on street corners around London, at Brick Lane, Borough Market and the South Bank, every time trousering a pocket full of loose change, but also gradually spreading the knowledge of his extraordinary genius.

Unlike those Delta entertainers, he arrives armed with a trolley carrying a battery-operated amplifier and diddy custom-made drumkit – hence the title of his mind-blowing debut album, ‘One Man & His 30w Pram’. Even less like them, he has accrued 100,000 hits for a YouTube clip, where he blasts out a block-rockin’ take on The Wu-Tang Clan’s ‘Protect Ya Neck’ outside Tottenham Court Road tube station. Elsewhere on the site, you can see him busting out a Prokofiev tune with his teeth. As one comment thereabouts imaginatively puts it, “When Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix and Ol’ Dirty Bastard died, this guy was born.”

APRIL DAWSON

April has worked extensively in the Circus and Theatrical Dance world as contortionist, dancer and acrobat. Her career started at just 15 years of age when she was hand picked by Lunar Circus for national and international tours. April has toured nationally with Circus Quirkus and has had numerous television appearances as a dancer on shows such as Strictly Dancing. She has performed for such big names as Disney, Universal Studios and P&O Cruises. April’s act combines stunning grace and flexibility with heart stopping displays of power and strength.

MIKE GURRIERI

Mike's strictly underground attitude towards music has earned him a reputation as a DJ who can open an entire crowd's mind to fresh, innovative music but still know how to make it fun at the same time.

Having worked in several local record stores earlier in his career enabled Mike to develop his ear & build a solid collection of music. Not content with just being known as a deep house DJ, Mike has managed to make
a name for himself also playing more eclectic freestyle DJ sets where he explores the depths of jazz, funk, soul, roots & beyond.

Having the ability to play such a wide variety of music has given Mike the opportunity to be the local DJ of choice given the task of setting the mood for many touring acts to take the reigns. He has been billed alongside the likes of Derrick Carter, Henrik Schwarz, Metro Area & Mark Farina at Melbourne's top house music nights. With the more freestyle DJ sets, he has supported DJs such as Jazzanova, Quantic, Nickodemus & Ben Westbeech as well as live acts including Amp Fiddler, Mayer Hawthorne & Crazy Penis. Mike has also started performing alongside funk and soul vocalist Kylie Auldist (of The Bamboos) live on PA. They recently made their debut together at Summadayze 2010 in Melbourne.
